The
Bible Way Program has been in use for many years in Africa.
It was designed as a correspondence course to be used where
missionaries did not live. The eleven book series covers the
basics of the Christian faith and is written in simple, usable
form. The first book, "Who is Jesus?," like all
the others is divided into twelve lessons. The student reads
a three or four page lesson and then is given a ten question
test to complete at the end of the leson. There is also a
verse to memorize in each lesson and the student is required
to share their verse by memory with a friend. When the student
completes the twelve lessons, he brings or mails the test
booklet back to the missionary to be graded. If the student
gets a mark of at least 80% correct, he receives a diploma
for his work. The books used in the Bible Way Program are:
We
have found this study course to be very effective with new
Christians because of its focus on God's Word and its simplicity.
Although the books were designed to be used as a correspondence
course, they are now being used in many different ways. Discipleship
classes meet on a weekly basis to discuss a lesson, recite
their verses and make application of the lesson to their daily
lives. Classes are held for those who cannot read. The lesson
is read to them, followed by discussion. The class works together
to answer the questions and learn their verss. The "Who
is Jesus" book has been used as a strong evangelistic
tool.
The set of study books is available in many languages. The
first five books of the series has been translated into the
Zerma langauge and work has already started on the remaining
six.
