The
Jesus film is available in Zerma, and we've shown it many
times in many different villages, as well as given away cassettes
to those who own their own VCR. We have a portable generator,
projector, and equipment which we use in the bush. Generally,
we show this film in villages where we have been storying,
or the people have had some exposure to the Gospel. For a
typical showing, we arrive in a village in late afternoon,
visit and let everyone know that their neighbors from surrounding
villages are invited, and set up our equipment. About 8:00
or later, when everyone has said their prayers and eaten supper,
we'll start the film with a short introduction. At various
points, we may stop the film to further explain what is going
on. The film itself lasts about two hours and concludes with
an clear and explicit invitation to receive Christ as Savior.
At the conclusion, we'll inform viewers that we are spending
the night and that anyone is welcome to visit with us or ask
questions.
What is the Jesus film? "Jesus" is the name of a
motion picture which depicts the life of Jesus Christ. Almost
all of the script was taken from the gospel of Luke. It has
been recognized as the most accurate depiction of the life
of Christ ever put on film.
What makes this film especially unique is that it has been
translated into hundreds of languages around the world. The
goal of the Jesus Film Project, a ministry of Campus Crusade
for Christ, is that everyone may have a chance to see and
hear this film in their own language. In the Zarma version,
for example, the voices are all Zerma men and women who worked
with a Jesus Film Project team to translate the script and
closely match the dialog with the movements of the actors
and actresses on screen. With the aid of computers, the end
result is a professional dubbing where it looks in many scenes
like the actors and actresses really are speaking Zarma.
